Internal quality is critical in the manufacturing of heavy forgings. To ensure that shafts, wheels, discs, and other forged components are free from internal defects, we strictly implement a UT (Ultrasonic Testing) inspection process for all key products, meeting the requirements of wind power, port machinery, and heavy equipment industries.
Before ultrasonic testing, the forgings must complete the following steps:
Forging and required heat treatment (normalizing, tempering, or quenching & tempering)
Necessary rough machining to ensure smooth and clean testing surfaces
Removal of oil, scale, and contaminants to guarantee accurate signals
UT inspection is carried out in accordance with customer requirements or applicable standards such as GOST, EN, or ASTM. The inspection focuses on detecting:
Internal cracks
Shrinkage cavities and porosity
Segregation and other internal discontinuities
Appropriate probes and inspection techniques are selected based on the size and structure of the forging to ensure full coverage of the effective testing area.
During the inspection process, technicians perform 100% scanning following specified procedures:
Shafts: special attention to the center area and step transitions
Wheels and discs:the focus of the inspection should be on the wheel rim, wheel hub, and high-stress areas.
All inspection data is recorded to ensure full traceability.
After inspection, the results are evaluated according to the applicable standards:
Accepted forgings proceed to the next process or shipment
Any abnormal indications are reviewed and handled through technical evaluation
A complete UT inspection report is provided to the customer as part of the final quality documentation.
Through a strict UT inspection process, we are able to:
Prevent equipment failure caused by internal defects
Improve the safety and service life of forged components
Reduce operational and maintenance risks for customers
UT inspection is a key element of our quality control system and a strong guarantee of reliable forged products.
