Product Name | 42CrMo Forged Wheels for Gantry Cranes and Heavy Port Handling Equipment |
Material Grades | - Alloy steel: 42CrMo — Delivers high tensile strength, excellent toughness, and outstanding wear resistance for long service under heavy rolling loads. |
Forging Equipment | - Hydraulic hammers: 5T / 8T / 12T — Capable of forging thick-section wheel blanks. - 3600T open-die forging press — Ensures uniform internal structure and dense grain flow. - Specialized wheel blank tooling for precise hub and rim profile formation. |
Manufacturing Process | Steel billet cutting → Hot forging (wheel blank formation) → Heat Treatment (quenching + tempering) → Ultrasonic testing → CNC machining of tread, hub bore, and mounting surfaces → Final dimensional inspection. |
Forging Ratio | ≥ 3.0 — Promotes uniform fiber flow from hub to rim, improving fatigue resistance and load capacity in cyclic rolling operations. |
Applications | - Gantry crane travel wheels in shipyards, construction, and container terminals. - Rail-mounted port handling equipment for container loading/unloading. - Heavy-duty industrial transfer carts and crane bogies. |
Heat Treatment Options | - Quenched + Tempered — High strength and toughness for continuous heavy load operation. - Induction hardening of tread surface for extended wear life. - Optional stress relief to minimize distortion before precision machining. |
Testing & Inspection | - Chemical: Spectrometer analysis of composition. - Mechanical: Tensile, yield, hardness, and Charpy impact tests. - NDT: 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) for internal defect detection. - Dimensional: Tread diameter, bore size, runout, and concentricity verification. |
Value-Added Services | - Precision machining of hub bore, keyways, and bolt holes. - Surface finishing (shot blasting, anti-corrosion coating). - Export-grade packaging for overseas transport. - Full traceability with heat number, batch number, and certified mechanical & NDT reports. |
Steel Forging Manufacturing Process
Steel ingots are received and placed in storage after verifying their chemical composition → Cutting to size → Heating in a controlled furnace (with temperature monitoring) → Forging followed by heat treatment (temperature control throughout) → Furnace discharge and initial blank inspection → Rough machining → Quality checks including UT, MT, dimensional, and hardness testing → Quenching and tempering (QT) → Further inspection covering UT, mechanical properties, hardness, and grain size → Finish machining to final dimensions → Final dimensional inspection → Marking and packaging (steel stamping and labeling) → Storage until shipment.
